Proposal "Two Issues of €2 Commemorative Coins per Year"

In a report published by the European Parliament it is being proposed that each country should be allowed to mint a €2 Commemorative coin every six months instead of every year. That would mean that each country would be allowed to mint two €2 commemorative coins per year and a third coin, when a common issue by all the countries is out. This proposal explains why France and Germany, next year are planning to issue two national commemorative coins

18 July 2012 - Now it is confirmed that all the countries in the eurozone can issue a 2 euro commemorative coin every 6 months instead of every year. On the 4th July, the European Parliament has voted in favor of the proposal and now are only awaiting for the publication in the Official Journal of the European Union - the approval can be read here

27 July 2012 - Today it become official that from 17th August, 2012 each country can mint up to 2 coins of €2 commemorative per year. This notice has just been published in the official journal of the European Union - read here for more details

Some countries like Netherlands, Austria do not avail the existing limit. What will they do with enhanced permission?

Some countries do not mint the quantities allowed. The mints or other countries may be permittted to mint those designs.

Collectors and dealers will be happy as would be mints.

No one will be unhappy.

Nice way to generate happiness.

Why not permit other countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America to join the bandwagon?

World will be happier.

This is still a proposal so it takes time to become a recommendation and it could also fail
If it passes I think it would be applied from next year

I am collecting and have no all of them..Probably first year would be interesting,,,not the others to come and besides I think it to be considered later as speculation and value of collection and currency itself may be damaged..  And what about the economy of the new-countries eurozone?

yes plus in the future the eurozone could be made up of around 25 countries - if all of them issue 2 coins per year it would be 50 coins per year :D
