King Juan Carlos of Spain has abdicated after almost 40 years on the throne. His son Prince Felipe, who is 45, will succeed him.That means that Spain will mint a new set of standard coins to feature the new king.

I agree that whole series redesign would be a good idea.
In addition, the new series need not wait for the new year ( as was done by Netherlands, Belgium and Vatican.

Spain should take advantage of the change of monarch and do a total redesign of all coins, the current ones are pretty awful! Especially when you consider the rather beautiful designs that appeared on some of the old peseta coins... Particularly the 1pta coin!

Will they redesign smaller coins too?
The king currently appears only on bimetallic 1 and 2 Euro coins.
