Back in 2006, the Maltese public was asked to choose the images that would appear on their euro coins. This was done in two rounds of consultations.

In the first round the public was asked to choose the themes and in the second round they were asked to choose the designs which were created and based on the themes suggested in the first round.

Four designs were made, 3 of them are currently found on the Maltese coins. The design shown here is the one that came 4th in the selection and thus didn’t qualify to be depicted on the coins.
