The Central Bank of Malta is issuing a new euro coin set dated 2011 which will incorporate the eight Maltese euro coins, designed by Noel Galea Bason. This coin was designed by Ġanni Bonnici and is the first in a series of five €2 commemorative coins commemorating Malta’s constitutional history.
The set, which will be in a distinctive box, will also include a replica coin of the Punic period, the original of which is currently held in the Bank’s Currency Museum collection.
The set will be on sale from Wednesday 19 October 2011 at the price of €35 including VAT from the Malta Coins Distribution Centre at the main building of the Central Bank of Malta.

The Central bank of Malta is distributing a new certificate to those who are buying the BU set. The first certificate says that the coins were designed by Noel Galea Bason however it fails to list the designer of the 2 euro commemorative coin, thus, the new certificate lists this designer and there is also a slight change in Punic coin description. Both the old and new certificates have another mistake in the diameter of the 2 euro coin which is listed as 27.75mm when actually it is 25.75
