Latvia Euro Coins - Latvia has once again slightly modified some of its future euro coins designs - as you can see from the images above, the top part of the head of the Latvian maiden has been changed.

probably they wanted to show it as it is appearing on the current coins

The head covering for an unmarried maiden in Latvia, is not a cap, as one might conclude from the coin design. It is merely a wreath or crown (vaiņags).  The actual style of wreath, the materials, and the pattern of embroidery used varied significantly from region to region, but the practice of wearing a vaiņags  was consistent across Latvia.

On the original design of the coin, the vainags was tall enough to cover the hair at the top of the  maiden's head. On the second design, the top hair are visible... Nevertheless, comparing with the photo here, the original design  looks more accurate.

Yes it is hard to spot the difference . . but I agree that the rounded top does look better than the flat top one.
