365 days left for Latvia to adopt the euro! Latvia is planning to adopt the euro on 1st January 2014, this February it will formally apply to be assessed by the European Commission and shall be approved by June-July 2013. In order to join the euro, Latvia has to meet all the Maastricht criteria and according to an assessment done in November 2012, it is meeting 4 out of 5, however in the coming months it should be fully compliant and thus it is almost certain that as today year we will be having the Latvian euro coins in circulation.

The Latvian euro coins designs are already known since 2006, however few months ago slight modifications to the position of the date were made. Latvia already announced the content of the their euro starter kits and chosen the Stuttgart mint to struck their coins.

Hi -  Yes I will have to do quite a bit of currency changing .. I will try to use my credit card as much as possible to avoid changing too much. But i'm sure there are some nice coins to check out in those countries too. :)

A pity is wasn't this year as I will be travelling thru Latvia by car in April/May. I'll have to change currency at the border somewhere I suppose. I am doing a road trip from the Netherlands thru Germany, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and back to the Netherlands. Still it is good news that it is finally happening for Latvia!
