Latvia Euro Coins "€2 Coin Edge Inscription"

All the 2 euro coins unlike all the other euro coins have an inscription on their edge. This inscription is unique to each country and the countries are obliged to use the same inscription on the 2 euro commemorative coins. The inscription on the Latvian 2 euro coins will be the name of their national anthem, DIEVS *** SVETI *** LATVIJU *** meaning GOD *** BLESS *** LATVIA

some countries officially recognize their corresponding religion in their constitution so yes not part of the European state (as there is isn't one) but part of the country that is issuing the coin

@ Eurohobby,

I believe this is irrelevant; god is part of Europian culture but not part of European state, as we were supposed to live in secular state(s). State is issuing the coins, not culture. In state are included all citizens, not only theists. Therefore, it makes no sense to put god on coins.

Very interesting news! So also for Latvian 2€ there will be an edge type A and B.

God on the coin edge again? I thought European countries will avoid this odd USA-like custom. However, similar inscription is already present on Dutch coins (God be with us).

It should be added that "Dievs, svētī Latviju!" is actually name of Latvian national anthem, so in this case this very fact is the reason of using such inscription.
