€30 & €100 Collectors Coins Slovenia 2012 - Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012


 

Winning Design

 

Slovenia next year besides the common issue of 2 euro commemorative coin - 10 Years of Euro Cash and the 3 collectors coins dedicated to the first Olympic medal won by a Slovenian, it will also issue two other collectors coins that will commemorate Maribor since next year it will get the title of European Capital of Culture.

 

In April 2011 the Bank of Slovenia held a public competition to design collector coins to be issued in 2012, with anonymous entries. By the competition closing date of 21 May 2011, it had received seven designs for collector coins commemorating the European capital of culture - Maribor 2012.

 

Based on the recommendations of the Commemorative Coins Commission appointed by the Bank of Slovenia and the Ministry of Finance, the Slovenian government decided to award:

 

First Place  to Tomaž Plečko

Second Place to Gorazd Učakar

Third Place to Matjaž Učakar

but when few designs are submitted you dont have much to choose from

It is irrelevant how many proposals were submitted in the competition, but what was their quality. But the result is disaster.

well - only 7 designs were submitted so you cannot expect much
