€2 Malta 2012 - 10 Years of Euro Banknotes and Coins

A dealer is reporting that Malta will mint 670,000 coins of the 10 years of the euro cash common 2 euro and the coin will be out in March, 2012

Malta will mint 700,000 coins - confirmed in the official Journal of the European Union

According to the "€2 Coin Shop" website, even though Malta is allowed to mint a maximum of 700,000 coins of the common issue 10 years of euro cash the central bank decided to mint 500,000 coins only. If that happens, then the Maltese coin would be the rarest of all.

Today the central bank of Malta confirmed that it will mint only 500,000 coins. The image given by the bank (see image below) will have mint marks on it unlike that published in the official journal of the European Union.

Each roll will be sold for €80 and will be out in March. The coin can be ordered directly from the bank.

On the Maltese local news just confirmed that the Malta €2 Commemorative Coin "10 years of euro cash" will be out in March. The Central Bank of Malta started to send emails to those dealers who booked the numismatics items. The bank re-confirmed that the 2 euro commemorative coin will be issued this Friday 30th March, 2012. The following is the email template that the bank is sending;



Dear Sir/Madam,


Central Bank of Malta - 2012 Coin Programme


Following our communication of the 3rd February 2012 launching the above mentioned programme and your subsequent order, below please find a table giving you the details of your order for the 2012 products, the allocation of coins and their cost. The table excludes postage and any items from previous years that you may have ordered. These will be communicated separately. The price quoted for the Gold and Silver coins is inclusive of the box. We are also pleased to inform you that the first product from the MCDC’s programme, the €2 coin commemorating the “Ten Years of the Euro” is going to be issued on Friday 30th March 2012.

Here the email lists the amount of coins ordered and how much you were allocated


In this regard, you are kindly requested to confirm the above allocation by Friday 30th March 2012 on email address mcdc@centralbankmalta.org.  If you confirm, please indicate whether you wish to collect the coins from the MCDC counter or have them sent by post, in which case the cost of postage will be communicated to you later. To collect the coins from the MCDC counter, please call on +356 2550 6008 for an appointment.


You can effect payment for the amount due above in respect of the “Ten Years of the Euro” coin only. Should you wish to transfer the money to our bank account, this should be done before the coins can be collected or sent by post. Apart from the payment terms as stipulated in the Terms & Conditions found on the Bank’s website, you can also pay in euro through SEPA to:

The Central Bank of Malta today started to contact collectors to collect the rolls of the Malta 10 Years Euro Cash. This email was sent to those collectors who chosen to pick up the rolls from the bank

The bank has now contacted all those collectors that chosen to have the rolls delivered to their home address. This is the letter received;

Dear Sir/Madam,

Central Bank of Malta - 2012 Coin Programme

Thank you for your interest in the above mentioned programme.

Following your order for the €2 Commemorative “10 Years of the Euro” roll which was officially issued on 30 March 2012, please note that your order for 1 roll has been accepted. The cost of the roll is €80 inclusive of VAT and will be sent to you by post from Monday 16 April onwards at an additional cost of €5.70 for a total cost of €85.70.

it¨s only for profit, Luxemburg sell rolls of 2€ CC for 57€ too. and BU set is sold every country for other price.

bank is selling each roll for 80eur meaning it is making a profit of 30eur so that is why we have to pay VAT

Can someone tell me why we have to pay VAT when you buy euro's at a Bank in Malta and Slovakia.

I have asked for one roll from 11/2/2012 until today no e-mail received.

Yesterday I sent a new e-mail asking further explaination.

No answer at all.

Yesterday i received my order for 2 rolls.

I sent an e-mail to the central bank for a reference number,
This morning they have confirmed the order and given my an Order Reference Number.

I received confirmation of my order for 1 roll-postage 5,70€,

Last week I sent an e-mail to the central bank,
they have confirmed the order and given Order Reference Number. :)))
